Things I Love Thursdays

A few favorites for September…

Enchanted Forest Mural at Anthropologie

I seem to be drawn to cute, strange, twee things.  This mural is no exception.  My ceilings are too low, otherwise, you can bet this would already be hanging in my house.

Light Up Balloons

These things are really cool.  We brought these out on the 4th of July and they were lovely – and glowed for nearly a month!  They are probably better for kids who are a bit older than mine; the warnings inside (what is IN there? Glass? Chemicals?) were a little frightening.  But I will definitely buy them again.

Unpaper Towels by Marley’s Monsters (on Etsy)

I have a collection of dish towels but it is probably time to spring for some good, flannel towels for use around the house.  I like the fun patterns, and I’m sure these would pay for themselves in no time at all.

Hope your week has been great, and as Nature Cat says, “Onward and yonward!”

The Land of Misfit Bloggers?

I am a toy gun that shoots jelly.

A train with square wheels.

A doll that cries real tears. (Okay, this one always freaked me out a little bit.  It just seemed too deep and serious, and not full of playful Christmas-ness.)

I guess I am a mommy blogger.  Because I am a mommy.  And a blogger.  But I’m having trouble defining myself… finding my voice… understanding why I feel compelled to do this.

I’ve been reading a lot of blogs.  And most mommy blogs fall into these categories (some even fit into several!)…

1. Miscarriage/fertility issues

2. Green mommies

3. Great mommy cooks

4. Working mommies with high-powered careers

5. Christian mommies

6. Mommies who have suffered PPD

7. Frugal mommies

8. SAHMs

I guess I almost fit into a few of these.    But not really.

Are there other bloggers out there like me?  If so, where?

My name is Sarky T.  I’m a mommy of 1 (with another on the way) who is…

…trying to live a balanced life

…while working full-time

…while saving for retirement

…while making time to have fun

…while attempting to live with kindness

…while nurturing my relationships

…while seeking health and balance

…while making positive social change (or at least not screwing things up too badly)

…while raising reasonably well-adjusted kids (okay, I’m really hoping I just don’t mess them up too badly)

…while learning more about myself and the people and world around me.

And perhaps I should add – while trying not to drive myself and those around me crazy with my seemingly unattainable goals.

So… am I Herbie, who wants to be a dentist?  Or are there other mommy bloggers out there like me?

Let me know.  And watch out for the Bumble.

Things I Like Thursday

TIL #3 – Ben & Jerry’s

What’s not to like?  I love their sense of humor, I love their social mission, and I love their delicious ice cream!  As a native New Englander (though not a Vermonter) I have felt a sort of native pride about this company since I first visited the factory in 1987.  And just in time for my “Things I Like Thursday” they announce their newest flavor – Schweddy Balls!  If you don’t get the reference (hint: it is from a SNL sketch starring Alec Baldwin) click on the image and it will bring you to the Ben & Jerry’s new flavor announcement.

TIL #2 – Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Laundry Detergent in Baby Blossom

My love for this product borders on obsession. I used Dreft at first, and I liked that but thought it was a bit expensive, and was looking for something a little more green, a little less chemically.  This is it.  I adore the smell.  At first I thought it was too weak smelling – I was used to the super powered scents of detergents like Tide.  Now I use it on my own clothes as well as Mr. Pickle Pumpkin’s clothes.  It smells un.be.lieve.a.ble. and it works.  Considering the amount of smooshed-in berry yogurt that ended up in Mr. PP’s shirt the other day I consider that the most important part. And me and Mr. PP are a lot less itchy now that we’re using something less chemically.  Win/win!

Mrs. Meyers Baby Blossom Detergent - pure, clean, amazing!
